Poor little Rebecca, and poor Sarah, Rebecca kept waking up last night every time she couldn't breathe because of a bad cold and Sarah kept leaping out of bed to soothe her and get her back to sleep. Still she is now seven months old and has been sleeping through every single night for the last five months - so we have been exceptionally lucky.
Went to the open spaces meeting last night, there were six of us including the clerk - it is the first time I've seen one of the councillors at this meeting! Quite interesting as it goes - the issue of joyriders on Gold Hill Common has cropped up - they suspected that since the school put up a good fence on their field over the road to stop regular burnt out cars it has shifted the problem over to Gold Hill. Apparently the police don't know who it is yet. So we were pondering what to do to stop them driving on the Common for the least money and most asthetically pleasing with the environment. Options were basically ditch and mound and posts - both are going to be used in tandem in the areas where they can get on to the common - posts are going to be tree stumps which I think will look quite good.
We also discussed a proposed project at Leachcroft and Grove Hill - but we didn't have any actual details on what they plan to do - which wasn't tremendously helpful, I mentioned about all the green sports playing areas in the village are under threat ie Newlands, NSE playing fields (and if Newlands goes our club house as without cricket its a dead duck) - think it'll be raised at the Parish meeting next week. I also mentioned the fly tipping down Shire Lane - simply because I almost collided with a fridge on it the other day (yes I was going a bit fast!).
We also decided to enter this years best kept village award again, litter is the biggest problem and needs the whole village to get involved - I haven't actually helped litter pick either of the years - last year I think I was getting the house ready for Rebecca. We decided not to enter Britain in Bloom competition as it was more costly (best kept village is only £8).
And finally, the roundabout in the play area at Mill Meadow is scheduled for replacement as it is getting a bit wobbly apparently - safe to use at the moment but will need a new one. A roundabout suitable for 2-4 year olds was just under £2k ex fitting which our haywardens will do. We asked to see what we could get for £2.5k ie something that might be suitable for older children as well (Though not those youngsters who are apparently putting their motorbikes on the top then jumping off)
Ah yes, it snowed last night and we have thin layer over the ground!
