No Hockey
I actually committed to some hockey this weekend - and South Bucks pulled out as they couldn't get a team together.
This is quite a sad barometer for the sport as South Bucks I think run four teams and so they are struggling to get their second XI out - i heard they are still running the 3's and 4's - which the league are apparently cross about. Anyway, South Bucks was born out of a merger between Richings Park and Farnham common - each of which had at least 3 or 4 teams - so they are losing close to five teams.
That is a real pity as clubs are dying everywhere - I'm guessing it'll only be a couple of years before Amersham and Chalfont merge with Gerrards Cross Hockey Club - meaning another loss of another club.
When I started playing in about 1995 there was CSP, GX, Richings Park, Farnham and Amersham. So that could be down to 2 soon or even one - quite scare and disasterous for hockey.

Now now, it's not all bad! A&C have had teams 1-5 plus a vint side and often a Badgers team too out without fail this season (and often with multiple subs!), and you probably won't recognise half the people attending club supper we have so many new faces in the men's section...
You are absolutely correct in what you say Mark - though I was commenting on the state of hockey in the area and other clubs - I think you are absolutely right in that A & C is now one of the strongest - hence why I got involved in the Newland Park project.
I should hopefully recognise lots of people - i've played for at least half the teams - would have been more had I not been bed ridden for a game for the 4's in December :-(
See you at club supper - and maybe worthing???
Not Worthing, no, as Lisa will be 8.5 months pregnant and probably require my support at that time! We'll be at club supper though - I was mainly referring to the 5s when I mentioned the new players, since we haven't benefited from your skills down at that level(yet!), and by my reckoning we have 10 fairly regular players who are new to the club this year.
