Why is our Government not being more proactive
I've listened to the politicians doing many speeches and claim to be doing masses for the environment - they aren't doing nearly enough. Simple things like when applying for planning permission the build has to be more than carbon neutral - get a wind turbine on the roof and a solar panel - has to be mandatory - for a new house the cost is a tiny fraction of the overall cost and for an extension it will be a larger proportion but make up for the rest of the house which probably doesn't have any green schemes.
I remember seeing a document where Chiltern District Council showed the house of the future - but i bet it was completely toothless and the crusty councillors would never pass something as radical as this in to their policies.
Unbelievable that someone who I used to think was the lowest of the low - Ken Livingstone - is taking the lead on these issues in this country and is begrudgingly gaining my respect and congratulations - and from what limited knowledge I have is making things happen - both with transport first and now (or near future) with all new planning applications in London - well done him.

Ken Livingstone is just a car hating old communist. And guess what? Surprise, surprise! he doesn't drive!
Imposing higher taxes on "Chelsea tractors" is just another example of the left-wing obsession with raising taxes, and, as far as Livingstone is concerned, is an opportunity to attack the middle-classes and disguise it as beibg "Green". I think urban 4x4 driving is pointless, but individuals have a right to drive one and keep their children a bit safer when they drive them half a mile down the road to school!
The Green debate has been used by "ex" Communists, across Europe, since the fall of the Eastern Bloc. Most of the old Communist parties of Eastern and Western Europe, changed themselves to Green parties, by name. Not because they gave a toss about the environment, (the old communist countries had shockingly bad polution problems)but because it was a way of using green issues as an excuse to try to influence European environmental policies that would bring about very harmful econonomic contraction in their economies. Which had been the main foriegn policy of the KGB and their supporters, in the West, for decades.
Climate change is, almost certainly, uncontrollable and far too little is know about the science to make any a accurate predictions.
The mainstream political parties have jumped on the band-wagon and used it as an excuse to raise taxes. they'll all be dead and gone, before we know if they made a difference or not.
If Co2 emissions were so dangerous, they would have to introduce draconian bans to stop the problem altogether, but instead they just want to raise revenues!
