Will he or won't he

Am I playing hockey tomorrow - who knows - I don't yet. The knee has swollen right up in 12 hours though I can still just about bend the knee enough to run / walk. The foot is swelling - but is OK at the moment - it all depends on what it does overnight - an early night and no alcohol and we'll see what happens. I'll be gutted if i cannot play but have told them i'm doubtful already - i certaintly won't be at full fitness whatever. Been taking plenty of the anti-inflammatory pills today though ....

Been working on JJP most of the day again - and also launched the new TES web site (formerly known as Turret Engineering). I've got to decide what to do with the domain name as it generates a lot of leads but we cannot use the word turret. um..... It was one of the first sites I did when I went out solo as part of Hive Solutions.

What am I doing over the weekend? Heaven knows all depends on the right foot... theoretically hockey and some work on the house - but might just be work work - very dull.

Semi resigned from the tithe barn this evening. I'm just not giving it any valuable input - and I think I need to concentrate on getting myself better at the moment. I'm sure I'll drift back in to it in a few years. Looking back on where Liam and I started a couple of years ago we are now miles ahead - though I can take absolutely no credit in the last year - that is down to the hard work of many other people. 100 people each of the two nights they are open now - absolutely fantastic stuff.

Rebecca is now climbing up on things and being very interactive. Here's one of her getting up on the sofa now. We really must get that stair gate this weekend .....

EBUYER - CPUs, Memory, Monitors, Printers, Storage, Networking, Software + more

Further to my openoffice musing - ebuyer sent me an email today and I have noticed they are plugging the student edition as also for parents. So a full version of Microsoft Office for the students and parents for only £66.20 - I've noticed this being advertised a lot more recently - so either Microsoft are encouraging it unofficially or it is a loop hole I would expect them to close in the near future!!

Gatwick by 6.45am

Took Martin and his mate to Gatwick this morning - picked them up at 5.50am - so feeling a little jaded already. Got round there in 45 minutes (10 minutes delay whilst martin was still packing) which wasn't bad - I'm stunned though at the amount of traffic at that time of the morning though - I cannot believe people do that every day. Martin is representing Great Britain at slow pitch mixed softball - so good luck to him - a week away in Florida.

Sarah got back home safely from Copenhagen which was good - though completely exhausted! At least Rebecca is only being ferried to Chalfont in the morning from now on - she got up at 6.15 apparently this morning - Sarah appeared to be delighted.

Plenty more work done yesterday - launched a couple more blogs - Control Systems and Equipment blog and Cater For You blog - I know how keen the competition are at reading this blog - so something else for them to read during the day.

Also updated the British Battles web site with more illustrations (on the Zulu and Boer Wars). The traffic on the site is absolutely staggering - yesterday it almost hit 6,000 sessions in one day - some of that are search engines having a look round - but nevertheless it is by far and away my busiest web site.

I'm hopefully playing 2's this weekend at 4.30 at Newland Park - my foot and knee haven't appeared yet - and i'm hoping a quick sleep at lunch time might keep it in check - or so i'm tremendously hoping. Otherwise I'm just working this weekend - either the house or my own business.

Google and Sun

This is a follow up post to the one from last week about Open Office - looks like Google is really trying to turn up the heat on Microsoft. It'll be interesting to see how they get on. My guess is they'll grab the home market space first which will then convert in to the office - a bit like Microsoft did with Word V2 vs Wordperfect 5.1 which was in offices but eventually overturned.

This battle will of course take several years and many court appearances no doubt - but fascinating to watch.

MMR cancelled again

How frustrating - that is the third time - I think I was actually quite nervous about it by the time I got to the surgery. Very annoying as I lost 4 hours work which i really needed. Anyway, had a great time at Grandma and Grandpas instead. Rebecca was also fast asleep when I picked her up from the nursery - but she'd only been asleep 10 minutes and that was all the sleep she got today!!

Some good news - Rebecca is going to be at Chalfont full time instead of split with Harefield which will save Sarah and I quite a lot of travelling time which is fantastic. Getting from Bourne End to Harefield was a bit of a chore.

Did some more updates on the J & J Pneumatics web site - though the hosting is an issue - if you ever wondered about framed redirections affecting search engine optimisation I can confirm it does. I also figured out why there was a security warning on the CSE Distributors buy on-line web site - I was calling an image from the main CSE web site - hence the warning. Will be interesting to see how it affected the sales.

Just seen an email from the Tithe Barn - apparently they now have around 100 youngsters attending each open night - how unbelievable is that compared with when the whole village appraisal started about 2 years ago - I though cannot take any credit for the last year as I've not done a lot apart from raise the profile here and there. They are also now looking at extending the opening hours - i'll keep you posted as and when I hear anything.

I was very disappointed to read a press release that they might close eight libraries in the County. Are people not reading enough? I was a Saturday assistant in Chalfont St Peter for five years from 17 through and my days at Newland Park.

MMR, Copenhagen, Winkers, Open Spaces

Sarah is off to Copenhagen with work today until tomorrow night. Rebecca is having her MMR at 2.30 today - hope it all goes ok and she doesn't have any reaction to it. At least I'll get to spend the afternoon with her!! What should be a straightforward injection (along with the many others shes already had) is not so simple because of the media attention.

Played hockey on Saturday - I was average - nothing special nothing bad - but my body certainly didn't feel normal after the turbulence of the last few weeks! My foot and knee problems seem to have affected me. They are both due up again tomorrow night / thursday - I'm desperately hoping they don't! I've been taking plenty of drugs prescribed to me so we shall see what happens. After hockey went out on a first team do - a curry followed by Winkers.

Been very busy on the work front. Finished revamping the Control Systems and Equipment web site yesterday - the sister company of CSE.

Despite my outstanding workload I went to the Open Spaces meeting (parish council sub committee). It was quite interesting as it happens. We went through the projected budget again for next year. A piece of play equipment at Gold Hill will need replacing soon (the helter skelter - which you cannot buy any more apparently because of health and safety!!!!) Someone mentioned a replacement cost of £50k which is impressive as the budget for the whole of the parish council is only £200k annually!! We will look to replace the equipment with something in the region of £10k next year. Some of the surfaces in the play area will also need replacing - they are as expensive as the play equipment - which is good to know that the local troublemakers dig it up (though not been too bad recently apparently).

We also found out that the BBC have requested the play area on Gold Hill to film a tiny part of House of tiny tearaways or something - which of course we allowed. Apparently last time the BBC did something one of the known troublesome youngsters were throwing bricks at the camera crew - what a charmer. He's now got an Asbo apparently.

I also updated the Parish Council on the softball's request to use Mill Meadow - which CDC mostly put a blocker on (see earlier posting) the parish council are going to write to complain about the beureaucratic nature of their response.

We also complained about how slow the contractors are at updating the lighting in certain areas of the village as well.

Below is a picture of Rebecca at the weekend playing in my new astros show box.
