London Bombing

I was extremely saddened to watch the events of yesterday unfold - thankfully the atrocity didn't kill nearly as many people as Madrid or New York, but still terrible all the same. I sat glued to the TV for most of the day instead of ploughing through my huge workload - the emergency services seemed to be fantastic.

Went out to the Tripti with Sarah last night for a delicious curry - great to go out with her on our own - thanks to Geoff for babysitting.

Out with Chris tonight - haven't seen him for a while so that should be good.

We've won the Olympics

Would you believe it, we beat the French again. Even more amusing after the recent diatribes of Jacques Chirac! Channel 4 made me laugh last night when they said his menu at the royal meal would be humble pie followed by sour grapes.

Anyway, I think it will be great for the country but awful for grass roots sports - I've been saying this for a while in that all the money that was available (which wasn't for Chalfont St Peter or the areas - well except Gerrards Cross as they have a lottery director on their board and have had 3 big lottery grants in ten years) will now be sucked up by the Olympics. So ironically just when all the athletes and sports people will be requiring backing they might find the money has gone elsewhere.

The Daily Express reporter was saying something similar on BBC news 24 last night - however, he also mentioned the fact that England Hockey couldn't afford to run its own pitch at Milton Keynes how will they run the new one in Stratford. Well he needs to be clear of his facts, it was a monumental cock up by England Hockey that screwed that one up - somehow even though all clubs gave money to the stadium - which almost broke Chalfont St Peter Hockey Club at the time - it never owned the stadium I believe.

Speaking of England Hockey being a complete waste of money - one of my favourite topies - all those regional directors of hockey employed by Hockey England - who practically never come in contact with us - and who we pay close to £2k a year for the privelidge of - they have further withdrawn services I noted in a recent email:

"....Active Sports funding in Bucks will end in March 2006 and Bucks will therefore need to look for ways to continue to fund development locally. One idea is to set up District Development groups who would each employ a "Community Sports Coach" and thereby greatly assist those clubs who become involved in the scheme. The way to achieve such Development groups is the focus of discussion at the meeting."

Amusingly when I spoke to Rich Beer he was telling me how much they did but they have to spread their resources thinly across the South East - well if no one is getting any benefit from their services - why bother at all - save grass roots the funding problems and let them plough it back in to lower membership fees or match fees - which would surely encourage more people to join.

Dug out the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon LP to listen to - vinyl is nowhere near as good as CD - not sure why people say it is better. Also been listening to Ministry of Sounds Clubbers Guide to 2005 again - an awful Guns 'n' Roses Sweet Child of Mine cover, Sweet Dreams and a couple of other covers. I'm feeling old...

Wednesday already

Wednesday already, I cannot believe it. I'm feeling a lot better this morning - the reason for that is because I made an appointment for the Doctor - I knew that would sort me out - I'm bound to be better by tomorrow morning now when it is.

Worked on 10 projects yesterday - I have about 20 on the go at the moment - which is interesting. Just prioritising todays work load now.

Arranged another fixture for the hockey team I'm running this summer - a second xi come 'badgers' - provisionally with Marlow - they are going to confirm this weekend. I might make that one more heavily weighted towards the 2's though as they need a good run in for the new season - just wondering whether to arrange any more fixtures after this one - 9th August. Maybe I'll leave it to the others to sort out - i've done my bit - five games that will have been.

Sssshhhh, its all gone quiet

Sarah left for work at 7.15 this morning and I dropped off Rebecca at 8am. The house has become eerily quiet for the majority of the week now! Neck deep in work at the moment - cleared a lot yesterday and still have a daunting to do list. Sent of my tax money - which was a pleasure!!

Weather is still pants - raining quite a lot at the moment - saves me watering the runner beans!

Weekend updates and CSE visit

Visited CSE Distributors last Friday - always good to pop in and see them. Picked up a load more work to do on their web site as well. The blog is working for them already which is good. Also been working on their Power Box web site and updated / updating.

Still feeling rough two weeks now - feels like when I had glandular fever - might even go to the Doctors!! Started to feel better yesterday so of course over did it and started a herb garden, planted some more seedlings, mowed the lawn and cut the front hedge back. Went to Martin's birthday do in the Village Hall last night - was quite good - though was on water - from what I could gather - Martin wasn't on water lol. Same day as my sister's birthday - which reminds me I'd better get the card in the post today - I have bought it just didn't post it!

Rebecca is One year old on the 20th - blimey where did that go! She was absolutely fabulous over the weekend - dribbling a lot yesterday though so probably some more teeth coming out - 6 at the moment - still no more progress on the walking.

Watched Live 8 over the weekend - some great performances - shame they were so short, The Who, Pink Floyd, Velvet Revolver (crowd weren't sure what to make of them!) and even Robbie Williams was good. Might try and get some of The Who and Pink Floyd music - haven't really got much of it - currently listening to the Velvet Revolver album again and classic opera chillout.
