EBUYER - CPUs, Memory, Monitors, Printers, Storage, Networking, Software + more
Further to my openoffice musing - ebuyer sent me an email today and I have noticed they are plugging the student edition as also for parents. So a full version of Microsoft Office for the students and parents for only £66.20 - I've noticed this being advertised a lot more recently - so either Microsoft are encouraging it unofficially or it is a loop hole I would expect them to close in the near future!!

Microsoft are losing the piracy battle anyway now that broadband is becoming standard, Using a file sharing software, I downloaded a zipped version of Office 2003 pro with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Frontpage and Oulook. Was about 652mb and took about 1 1/2 hours to download between about 50kbps - 250kbps I just let it run in the background. Saved me a few bob!
That makes you a thief then - if you don't want to pay their prices buy open source or another product - theft is not big nor clever. Other people end up paying for your piracy ( look it up in the dictionary sometime ). If it was sat in a shop you'd never take it without paying so why do it online. They don't force you to buy their tools - you are welcome to buy from other vendors etc.
Just noticed these comments - I agree with the second post - it is - there are other options available. I purchased the Adobe suite a couple of years ago for close on £1k which hurt, but I needed legit software for my business - I could have bought paint shop pro for £50 but didn't. I would prefer them to have a more cost effective upgrade policy saying that as I want CS2.
Well, my heart bleeds for Microsoft. They have a near monopoly on this type of software and charge Hundreds of pounds for it, and they have a customer base of 10s of millions. I have already paid Microsoft for the use of XP I don't want to give them a load more for something I won't use that often, If they charged a more reasonbale amount for for the standard pieces of software, people might feel less of a need to pirate. Office 2003 is out of date, and soon to be replaced. Why should people pay a fortune for something that is soon to be out-of-date when they need to use the product immediately. I know someone who's companyis allowed to give their employees free versions of Office 2003 pro as part of the deal with Microsoft. So on that basis, excuse me if I don't feel too gulity about pirating.
Are you a muppet or what? The whole point is you don't have to pay for their software as you can get open source or buy from another vendor. They can charge what they want for the product coz they wrote it. Your petty Piracy is at the end of the day still THEFT. If you can't afford a Rolls Royce you don't just steal one coz it suits do you - instead you go buy a cheap car or use your legs to walk. So stop trying to justify your piracy - there is no excuse.
Microsoft have a monopoly on their products coz they got in there and did the work - Go buy an Apple or instal Linux if XP is too expensive. Go buy Lotus Notes, Smartsuite or get the FREE Open Source Office Suite. People don't have to buy something that is almost out of date - (1) because it isn't "almost out of date" just because it has a date in the name - it still does the job it is supposed to and if it doesn't then why buy it anyway and (2) because they don't have to buy it - we all have a choice on these things.
Stop being a part of the friggin freeload generation that want it all on a plate given to them for free and use some common sense.
You're not big, clever or making any part of a valid argument. You have no legal right to do so and so as was said before - this makes you a Thief !
