Nuthatch

I was absolutely delighted to see my first ever nut hatch on January 3rd 2004 - and a pair of them at that.  They were very attracted by the fresh seed I put out on the bird table.  Also joining them was a Robin and a particularly fat male blackbird.  According to this document (http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countryside/ewd/rrrpac/wildbirds/app1.pdf) there are 130,000 pairs breeding in the UK.  I first spotted it this morning up one of the trees looking into a potential nest I suspect - I thought it was a woodpecker which are often heard in the area.

A side benefit was I also learned how to use my digital camera a bit better - fortunately the birds were obliging and I had about 30 attempts to get a decent photo!!

Below is the photo with the black bird and nuthatch just making friends.
