Garden Bird Watching

Since I've been working from home, I have been trying to encourage more birds into the garden to distract me from my work a little! Strangely I have found it most rewarding and in some small way exciting!

The range of birds that have so far visited the garden has been quite large.  This may be largely due to the superb natural habitat at the back of the garden - ie the NSE land and the fields beyond.  How much this will change if the building work goes ahead we'll have to see.  Looking at their plans, the trees at the end of my garden will be staying.

There's also a small hole at the bottom of the garden....

The Nuthatch was an exciting addition to the list in early January 04 and since then my photographic and spotting skills have improved considerably with a raft of new birds including the most recent in April 2005 a Sparrowhawk (or I think it is!).

The swift I haven't seen eating in the garden (as they eat insects in the air apparently), but they used to live in the house...as did the vermin Squirrels when we first moved in.  After removing them, they seem to have come back vigorously into the area and maybe even the loft again (well something seems to be living there...).

I've also spotted and heard a woodpecker, though cannot remember what type at the moment and of course the flying rat (pigeon).
